About Kastela - General Information about Kastela in Dalmatia - Croatia
The town of Kastela is located on the coast of the Bay of Kastela, northwest of Split, west of Solin and east of Trogir. It has over 40 000 inhabitants, and it is the second largest town in the Split and Dalmatia County and it stretches over the length of 17 kilometers. It is divided on Gornja and Donja Kastela, and it consists of seven old settlements which were developed near the coast, around the castles built in the l5th and l6th century by nobility and clergy. These settlements are Kastel Stafilic, Kastel Novi, Kastel Stari, Kastel Luksic, Kastel Kambelovac, Kastel Gomilica and Kastel Sucurac.
Since the prehistoric times, Kastela region was attracting people because of its Mediterranean charm, picturesque landscape and the unique composition of natural beauties. It is filled with sandy beaches which are surrounded by terraces and viewpoints, tennis and other sports grounds all that located in the wonderful greenery of pine and tamaris trees.
The industrial zone of Kastela is very developed, and Resnik, the airport of Split, is near.
